Recently I've been seeing lots of microniche keywords I'd love to target have the EMDs .com taken. Is the e-m-d.com as effective? or .net or .org? I swear these people just buy any domain with keyword traffic and auction it off at 10x the price.

Its better you take the available emd's (.com/.net/.org) if none of the emd's are available then consider hyphs...

So they're assholes for making 10X off it? Not calling you out but think about it...

From my findings .net is weak but .org is solid. G00gle or B1ng or whatever terms and see whats ranking on 1st page. I also like type-in traffic from watermarks. so I try to go for short & easy non EMD 2 or 3 word max domain names. In the past I had dashes but now, no.

Its called business but if the .net or .org is available then get that. Also you dont need an exact match EMD and even more so now after the last EMD update. Just add a word at the beginning or end and you got yourself as good as an EMD. EG, if your keyword is skateboarding and the .com/.net/org are all taken then just buy learnskateboarding.com or skateboardingguide.com etc.

I am fairly new to SEO and what not, but I have wondered why rich fkers haven't bought up all the decent domains, hell, its not that expensive to buy them up and park them if you have that kind of cash.

I assume there will be a day when anything worthy under 10-15 characters will be gone.

There was a .com i wanted bad, but everything including a E in front of it or a number after it was taken and most of them were parked.

BTW, why are domains with a E in front of it a hot item?
There are certain numbers that work that way to, at the end.

Don't hate the players, hate the game.

You do know that Registrars have first rights to renew an expired domain and get a full refund if they file before 45 days (I think that's the current limit) at which time they get full refund and can even renew it again for another 45 days and repeat this as long as they think the domain has value. Once they see nobody wants it then stop renewing it after a refund and let it drop to the public.

Most all of the major Registrars do this with any domains of value. Sometimes good domains sneak through and the public purchase them and then list them to auction but that's a small percentage of domains listed. Most are domains the Registrars are "floating" to see if they can get a bite.

Because it adds swag, and you know without swag nothing is nothing!

On a more serious note, the name get's new, "electronic" meaning. Kinda like eMail is "electronic Mail", if you understand what I mean. Personally I don't like it, and have not, nor will ever, go for that approach.

The recent EDM update devalued the power it use to have over non-EDM, it's only dumb people that still go after basic EDM with low quality links. If EDM must be important it has to command some level of authority which is built thru quality back links and have good PR.

I actually stay away from EMDs nowadays. 20 of my EMDs got hit this year. I ditched most and recovered 3 of them by purchasing premium domains (dictionary-word .com/.net/.org) and 301ing the EMD to that. Brands are the way to go!

This world is free. Nobody should consider someone as an asshole if it is his free decision to buy and sell for prices he want. Not 10x, they can sell it million times more, it is there decision - if there are buyers, there will be sellers. Nothing illegal. This is the free market/capitalism and it is driven by the free will of the people. Spend more time considering building you business, not looking what others are doing.

No. Just, no. Just because crappy EMD's were hit, doesn't mean that EMD's in general are useless. There's a major difference in "car.com" and "eAwesum-Carz.com", despite it being possible to rank either one for the same keyword(s) just as easily/hard.

It's just that there's no need to cry over taken domain, when you know they're not getting any extra boost for just having that exact domain. Sorry for OT.
