Glad you have come to the dark side :)

I'm glad you feel that's good for you as those numbers should be ridiculously easy to achieve. It sounds like there is now a lot more competition for the products you are selling hence why maybe you have gone down in the search. Etsy's algorithm is mostly based on newer items so if you renew your listings a lot they will appear higher. You also need to make sure you have your SEO and keywords on point if you want to be on the first page. When listings are old as yours might be then they tend to show lower down the listings. You should share the listings on twitter, facebook and pinterest too using the buttons on the listing so that etsy thinks this is a popular item and ranks it higher. You can PM me if you want to show me more details if you don't want to post them here and i can critique one of the listings for you to see if that helps.

This thread has nothing to do with that. Your post has been reported as I see you have asked the same question many times so not sure why you have come to an Etsy thread to ask. Please refrain from posting non relevant posts in this thread or others.

Yeah you can sell that on there. At the end of the day if there are specs out there for someone to make something you are still making it yourself at home. So yeah that's fine but if its someones IP and they make a claim then that could cause problems and if enough people do it you could lose your shop. But as for selling 3D printed stuff as long as you are the one personally printing it them yourself at your location.

I have access to all kinds of items, both cheap and expensive, unique and ordinary. So I am thinking about opening an online store and I was wondering how do you actually get people to buy from you? You have no rating, no nothing. So everyone will hesitate to buy from you.

If I actually go through with my plan, I will definitely hire you (if you want to, of course.)

Also, what is your personal opinion on selling these handmade arts?

Thanks for sharing this great thread and good luck in all your future endeavors.

When you say access I assume you mean you don't make them yourself. if that's the case you will have to be very hush hush about that fact otherwise you wont be allowed to sell there. Etsy wont accept any old manufacturer either so if its a product that lots of people are selling like the item you gave an example of then they might not accept it.

Also that looks like its a nightmare to ship, stick to things that are small and easy/cheap to ship that are unlikely to get damaged in transit. As for starting out new everyone does. they are more hesitant to purchase if the shop is located outside of the US due to lots of people not truly hand making the items and of course the shipping times and fees.

Do you think custom made dresses sell well on etsy based upon your experience with etsy? Does the location of the store matter? Especially when the store is located oversea? Shipping time can take between 20-30 days to reach USA (I am assuming that bulk of buyers are located in USA).

For a brand new store with zero feedback, do you think it is still possible to sell on etsy?

Thanks for taking your time to answer these questions.

Thanks for the question. That is a huge niche on Etsy and there are a lot of people that purchase those products on Etsy every day. I could cite a bunch of shops doing very well that do just that. I wont post the links here though because I dont want this thread showing up on their stats page. The Etsy shop stats is pretty good in my opinion and gives a lot of info. There are over 172,000 listings for handmade dresses for women on Etsy and over 101,000 for girls so its a huge market. I got those numbers from just searching in clothing, women's clothing and then selecting handmade. You can also use a site called craftcount to do searches on a particular category to find the top selling shops and other info.

Yes the location matters for a number of reasons.
    1) People are all about purchasing within the US and the US market is the biggest by far on Etsy just as it is for many other things like traffic etc.
    2) Shipping times, people want items fast and if they dont get them fast the chances of poor or zero reviews are much higher
    3) Shipping costs are much higher and people are put off
    4) Depending on the items you are shipping

As for feedback and the new store problem. I just deleted a long paragraph explanation I just wrote out because I dont want it to be abused. If you are personally selling dresses or someone you know is I will be more than happy to tell you how to overcome that in a PM and answer any questions you have about your shop

Thank you for the detail explanation. I am looking at the potential to sell on etsy since I own a chain of physical fashion boutique for custom made ladies clothing. Appreciate if you could reveal further through PM regarding the review.

The biggest obstacle that I can foresee lies with the location of the products since I am using dress makers from developing country. Thus there is a need to collaborate with someone based in USA if I intend to sell on etsy.

My pleasure, I just sent you the PM. As for the obstacle you face I agree, if you intent on doing it seriously then you should collaborate with someone in the US but its not 100% necessary. As you have a legit chain you could mention that and alleviate most peoples worries but the shipping times and costs will still be there. You could at least do a moderate amount of business. You will lose out on a big chunk of people no doubt but its not as though you have to work with someone in the US. There are many shops that do well. If you are basically outsourcing to a factory someplace though you cant mention that part as that will never fly with etsy even under their manufacturer conditions. if it can be played as a local business and you list the "employees" on the shop about section in the relevant place its fine. there are of course ways you can get around all that stuff just with the wording and adding a few things to ones about pages.

Okay so I am really new to this shop stuff it seems like but here are a few.
    1: Is Etsy like shopify?
2: What level of ease of use to you rank it out of a 10?
3: Over what period of time (or how long) did it take you to start making a daily income?

    1) Etsy is a marketplace where you get a shop, Shopify is your own site that you can do what you want with.

Thanks for answering our questions and PM's.

Should I follow your advice and renew some of my listings even if they won't expire until january/february?

I am going to register now. I always go to shop for something online like a simple USB for instance & etsy is ALWAYS in the google 'shop' tab.
    Thank you Will!

Firstly whats with all the black cats lol

Yes renewing listings is the easiest way to increase a rank of an Etsy listing. it only costs 20c too so if you have a high enough priced item then its worth it. if you are selling stuff for just a few dollars then it can take a huge bite out of profits.

Sounds good, good luck with selling on Etsy.

How do you find suppliers? Are the items truly "handmade" as opposed to some China products?

I had a skin care product up on etsy, a mud mask. Why did I not get 1 single sale? Had my own brand name and everything.

Etsy is a marketplace for handmade and vintage goods, the vast majority of items are truly handmade. of course there will always be a few people who break the rules and try and sell cheap crap from China but they usually get found as Etsy are VERY strict and most other users will report a shop they dont believe to be handmade. the culture or reporting shit on Etsy is bigger than on any other site I have witnessed so you cant get away with much there but if you have a good product and do business in a professional way it can be a gold mine.

I don't know. Why did you not get one sale? Did you just list an item and think that's was good enough? Did you do any promotion? Lots of people think that all they have to do is open a shop and they will make sales. It does not work like that. Did you tell the following of you brand you where there? how come no one came to purchase your items? Was it a brand new brand? Did you utilize any of the features of Etsy to drive traffic?
