Making money with an auto-blog is possible, but not easy.
For monetization, you need to know your niche. What do they want, besides the information you're presenting? Some sites use taboola and other "read more" stuff for monetization, but I feel that leaves money on the table.
I have a deeply niched site for a particular job field. I auto-blog job openings, which gets me money per click, but that is peanuts. I also have a blog, where I share niche specific resume advice and affiliate ads for resume writing services. I have job interview guides and dress for interview success guides, where I have Amazon affiliate ads for clothes and accessories. I have career coaching ads, ads for all sorts of stuff like that, all of which pay more than Adsense or some other such program.
I also monetize my email list through affiliate ads and such. Which is set up with mailchimp to keep my audience in my sales funnel.

You also need a traffic strategy for your auto-blog, as it will take a lot of work to actually get Google love. So you need to do some serious social media planning and get an audience that is looking for what you are promoting.

Yes but seems to work best with news, fashion, job and pics niches.

Yes! I have few auto/moto sites and they're doing good.
Everyone is trying to go 'viral', but this trend is going down now, while auto fans will always be there

Make sure that your materials are interesting and good quality, give readers what they want to read

I would say 'YES'...if you gain good followers on social media, so you can get steady traffic and earning. Always choose a good niche and target followers of your competition, so traffic would be targeted and converts well.
