Dear readers,

I just found an interesting research by Ahrefs:
domain_rating_vs_keyword_rankings-1.png

Now the million dollar question is. Is it better to have let's say 5 affiliate sites with DR 20 over 1 affiliate site with DR 40 for example. Aren't chances way bigger that your 5 affiliate sites will get alot more traffic since its 5x more KW rankings?

I KNOW that the one affiliate site with 40DR probably ranks higher with a couple keywords, but still. The 20 DR websites can also rank 1 on couple of focused keywords..

Thoughts?

I am now checking around 1500 of successful Amazon affiliate websites from my list. From what I see, there are plently of well-ranking with 10-20 DR. For sure, there may be PBNs hidden. But still I think, it's better to have 5 with 20 DR in different niches to split the risks than putting all eggs in 1 basket.
Correlation graphic you showed is about average number of keywords - it doesn't indicate power of domain, it's about amount of content.
Website with 10 DR and 1000 articles will have more keywords ranking (not necessarily in top-10) than 50 DR website with 10-20 articles

If we are talking about the same niche here, then definitely 1 bigger site.

If your site reaches a certain authority, any article you post will rank on first page immediately (for lower end keywords ofc).

You will not be able to achieve this with smaller domains to such extent. Not to mention all the hassle with managing 5 sites as compared to 1.

Having 5 sites, each in a different niche and trying to reach the level of those mentioned DR40 is the way to go.

Thanks everyone for the insights. I think the conclusion I make is that it's safer to spread the risks by making more websites (different niches for the variation of blogging)
