yes i would write for $1, as may writers do in such places as Associated Content in which you write 500 word articles in hopes of getting paid $.
Anyone that says they "will not" write for a dollar have never been on AC and prob have not been writing themselves full-time that long. Rejection pays 0$ usually and pride gets your lights turned off.
on Ac for example beginner rejection rates run as high as 50% (and higher) until you get high level clout and then hopefully your articles start making $. Yes you can try other places and hope that you get paid per 1000+ views etc, but good luck.
this is some of my experiences early on (with AC now I have tripled the original posts count with very similar rejection rates & $ earned).

a rejection rate for ORIGINAL CONTENT of about 57%
avg about 500 words
28 x 500 words = 14,000 words / $19.00 (Pay Out) = $0.00136 per word
avg time writing 10 minutes (usually more)
28 works x 10 minutes = 2800 minutes / 60 = 47 hours
avg pay per hour
47 hours / $19.00 = $2.46 per hour
so a 400 word article on this account would equal = 54 cents?
another account early on:

5 rejected

7 x 500 = 3500 words / $8.00 (Pay Out) = $0.00226 per word

guaranteed now (no rejections probably)... anyways these articles are for web content they dont have to be fancy but fillers...
so since AC alone has almost 2 million articles submitted to them and using some of the stats above, you would think that there are a ton of people happy with $1 per 400 words.

If all you've done on AC is averaging 2.46$/h, then why do you pursue it?
It's high time to read more and find a much much more profitable way of making money.
A homeless selling beer cans will do more in an hour than what you did on AC.

Since I don't have a heart, I've done this too by hiring writers on GAF way back when AC hasn't implemented the verification system... and yes, with the same price (or was it lower?). Go there if you want better luck 'coz finding writers here at that price will just get you flamed.
