Am I right in saying that everyone in the SEO game (well, anyone trying to rank anything on the internet) seems to largely base their SEO around building, or buying PBN/homepage posts. I just need some perspective as 'easy' methods like high-pr, do-follow relevant comments are difficult to get a'hold of. This basically just leaves web 2.0, press releases and social. The idea then is to juice these up with 'link pushing' methods and use social to supplement everything.

I seem to really over complicate stuff sometimes and as a result don't often take (much) action. I'm not a noob and have ranked stuff before but like I said, my brain gets a bit overloaded with all the information out there.

On a side note: If you had a previously penalized domain (over optimization - no manual action), would you be OK to take the content from it and stick it on a new site? Also, if you guys had a new site, 2-3 months old (almost no link building) and put some posts on it, would you expect to show up anywhere in the top 100? The reason I ask is I'm kinda' paranoid whether google recognizes the previous content and thus de-ranks it, whether I'm in sort sort of sandbox/filter, or whether this is where I'm actually supposed to rank, prior to any link building efforts.

Thanks for any clarification guys :)

If previous content is indexed in its results it is quite obvious for G to consider it duplicate but you can spin it or change the content though some suggest this strategy with redirect does not work anymore

That's because high pr blog posts are one of the most powerful type of artificially created backlinks you can get today.

To move content to a new domain, add the old domain to Google Webmaster Tools and use the URL removal tool to remove it before moving the content over. This will help you sidestep any duplicate conteny issues.

Drop the paranoia. Google won't associate the new domain with the old one by virtue of same content.
