Not sure if this has happened to anyone. It's happened to me plenty of times! You are told by your boss or manager to do keyword research for a project, but then they want you to rush and get it done quick and dirty? And they say that "you are going to accomplish the same goal whether you spend 10 minutes or 10 hours on keyword research, bla bla bla".

Personally I like to spend my time when doing keyword research and I like to find quality keywords, etc. I could literally spend days doing quality keyword research.

The problem most of the time is you are never given a chance to explain the value and quality in doing in-depth quality keyword research, the boss doesn't care to hear any of that or they say they don't have the budget to spend that kind of time.

How do you guys and girls approach this issue?

If they aren't willing to have the job done right and you do, then it isn't the job for you to be in.

It is a simple conflict of interest. You either do it to the best of your ability with the time given or move on to more desirable work.

If he wants 10 minute results, that is what he will get.

I have no time for people like that. If a client wants results, they come to me and if they don't, I don't let them waste my time nor theirs with drama. Most importantly, I will NEVER let someone stress me out because they have their head in the clouds, in the sand or where ever they choose to put it.

Do what is best for you, if the boss sucks, get a new boss...it's that simple.

Remember, you were looking for a job when you found that one. Start looking again.

    Best of luck.

I would never do keyword research for anyone else except myself.

One problem with all organisations is that they don't value really good work.

Where's the incentive to go the extra mile and deliver really amazing stuff if you won't even get paid a percentage? That's one reason I'm glad I'm not in the regular workforce anymore.

Ask him, "Do you want $10 or $1000, cause that's the difference between 10 min and 10 hours" :)

Do the keyword research for your boss.

    Give him the bronze-silver nuggets
Keep the golden nuggets for yourself

    thats the one right there,

Even if your job depends on it, keep these to yourselves. Your a lot more valuable being the only one who knows things, rather than the whole business knowing the same thing

To be honest, I had that problem at one of my old jobs, and I'd do KW research based on what he wanted. Then I'd go home, do my own due diligence with Traffic Travis and Market Samurai and a few other methods, find the traffic potential for the office KW list and my KW list, and with 1/3 the keywords, I had 12-18x the amount of traffic potential. Needless to say, he fired the rest of the team and raised my salary because they weren't advising him properly.

I later left the firm and because there was never a no-compete agreement signed, I built an authority site, outranked him, and sold clickbank products in his niche. He was not pleased.

I honestly would hate that sooo much. If you find an amazing keyword but you have to give it to your boss.

BOSS IS BOSS , If my boss tell me too put the office on fire I will put it on fire . Litsen to him , he is paying your wages , accomplish your wishes in free time , not in their time .

There is saying in Urdu /Hindi "Nokar ki Nakhra ki" means beggar can't be choosers.
