Sorry guys i should have put this in my title, but if you have a lot of experience you probably know everything here.
I've been getting a lot of pm's because of my last post and there is definitely a theme with the people newer to internet marketing. No worries I will not say who!
I think a lot of people are a bit confused about what competition really means. I'm sure you've bought those asshole guru's books and they've taught you some retarded methods that don't work.
You do NOT check your competition by seeing how many pages there are when you search for you keyword. I don't care if it's 100,000 or a million, it doesn't mean sh*t. Amount of pages doesn't mean anything because g*00gle throws up relevant pages to your terms, not the exact phrase. So you have no idea if there is no one attacking the keyword and G just found a billion pages that might have something to do with it. See even though there is a billion pages there may be no real competition.
You only need to look at the top ten to twenty pages in your keyword search, then you need to see how many backlinks they have, but more importantly what anchor text were they using for all those backlinks. If all their link texts say "click here" then those dumb fucks are ranking great in G, for the damn keyword "click here" and not much else. Then there's the people that link back with their name, well what do you think they are ranking great for? they're f*ckin' name!
So to break it down
lots of backlinks with your keyword related anchored texts = high competition
no backlinks = no competition
lots of backlinks with crap anchor text = low comptetion.
I could go more in depth but for you new guys that is all you need to start. Make sure you know what your competition is up to and then you know exactly what it will take to take their ass down.
NOW STOP READING AND GET THE F*CK OUT THERE AND DO IT!
