I was just looking over a bunch of monthly stats for some free ebooks I have out loaded with aff links and some other stuff.

It is completely obvious that people are using the recommendations I give, they are just taking my affiliate link off the URL so I get nothing for it.

It's cool, I make a very acceptable five figures a month in aff commissions and we all know people are haters, but I was just curious how many BHW members do this.

Do you guys drop the aff link on a URL you want to check out so the person gets nothing?

I don't know if anyone will answer honestly, but it's a pretty well documented fact that 40% of aff commissions are lost this way.

I'll be honest and say I used to do it all the time, I was a jealous little punk a bunch of years ago, not making any money online and pissed at everyone who was.

And then I read a book on the law of attraction which is now super mainstream thanks to "The Secret" and I decided to stop throwing out negative energy and start enjoying that someone was making money by putting a useful site or software in front of me.

I swear to God, I made $632.27 that week in aff commissions out of nowhere and I'll never forget it. Now you can say coincidence or whatever and that's fine, but I totally believe that you get what you put out, if you f*ck people out of their commissions do to jealousy you won't make any yourself.

So now I enjoy when others get commissions on something especially when I know it is recurring based on performance like a CPA network referral because that person is going to make a fortune off me.

There's gotta be a few offenders in here, so I figured I'd just put it out there that if your doing this, and you're not making any money on your own links, maybe try enjoying helping a fellow aff marketer out and you might just start getting some checks in the mail.

It depends on the presentation really. If a person looks like that have put some effort in to it I'll use it. If it looks like crap I don't.

Before I became an affiliate, I did that. Don't know why but I guess I wasn't really thinking. Maybe I was jealous but not consciously. It was always simpler to cut short the url. That's why it's important to cloak urls.

Now I even click on others' adsense ads. (that's why I end up buying so much junk !)

use some 301 redirects off of a single domain to each different affiliate url, its harder for most people to notice, granted, they still do, but often they may well just click that way... just my 2c

Whenever anyone visits my links they don't have any affiliate extensions on them. Load the page with affiliate on the end in a cloaked page, so the cookie drops, then refresh to page without the junk on the end. Simple! :)

I used to cut off people's links as well, although i don't anymore. Unless of course the product is complete bollocks in which case they deserve no commissions.

I also now click on people's adsense, just because i'm sure they appreciate it and hope i get the same in return, however. I also am quite naughty and teach people using PPC a lesson, by visiting their site, via their PPC ad with no intention of buying, just because it's a crap advert, or very untargeted. In any given day i can do this quite a bit 20+ clicks on various ads. I'll make them learn. :D

Well it doesn't really matter how it's presented, if you end up liking the product, service etc and buy it, the affiliate should get the sale. If you decide you don't like it then it cost you nothing to click the affiliate link.

I'm talking about people who are see something they want to check out, maybe in a forum sig and purposely take off the aff extension. That type of stuff just doesn't make any sense to me.

I click adsense ads on almost every site I visit to help out the site owner, and if someone recomends a product in a forum and I decide to buy after checking it out, I'll ask them if they have affiliate link I can buy through. It's just a cool thing to do.

More or less the same story here. I used to be a real ***** removing any affiliate codes, but lately I find myself keeping them most of the time.

AdSense is another thing I do click on, for sites that I like. Ones that I go to that have the badly rewritten articles, when I want good info, I don't.
