    Nice article. I'm a late-sleeper myself (sometimes 01:00 a.m., other times 06:00 a.m., almost always at 03:00 a.m.).

However, while I would really like this to be true, I'm still skeptical. I would really like to see the study (the actual experiment) itself to see how accurate the claim "More intelligent individuals are more likely to be nocturnal than less intelligent individuals" is.

I could not find a link to the study in the link you posted (maybe I'm not that intelligent after all :p ). Would you have the link to it?

Yep. I've had chronic insomnia since I was 17 (when I started messing with amphetamines lol). I remember in highschool going to bed at 4am just to wake up 7am Sat morning for a wrestling meet then going to work for 8 hours and staying up again till 4 am over and over and over. I did that shit all through highschool, college, and these days it's gotten even worse. Sometimes I don't get to bed till 6am after the sun is already up.

And what's crazy is there is nobody in my family like this. Everyone in my family is waking up literally the minute I go to bed.

As far as being "anti-establishment"... yes. I've served 19 months in prison so I definitely don't take to authority that well. I've never really been 1 to conform.

I'm also a very open minded person like the article says. But everyone likes to believe their open minded so I read that more like a horoscope.

Then there is the high intelligence claim....

As much as I'd like to believe it - I don't. Because it feeds on the egos of insomniacs and of course we're all gonna think, "fuck yeh, I'm smart as hell cause I can't go to bed early like the rest of the world"... which doesn't really make any sense. I think the test is automatically skewed just because it was done on younger people ... who naturally tend to stay up late anyway.

If you ask me, going to bed early is a form of "social intelligence". If you want to get a good night's rest, if you want to function properly and be around people during the day, if you want to make friends and have a good social life.... going to bed at 4-6am and waking up after noon isn't a good way of doing that. Or maybe it's my mother who's said my entire life "early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise". I'm 32 now and anytime I talk to my mom on the phone she's always reminding me of that stupid fucking quote that I must have heard at least 1000 times in my life.

But ultimately, I don't go to bed late because I'm smart. I don't honestly know why I do it. I think it's just a bad habit that started in highschool and I was never able to break it.

I can also say for a fact, it's caused A LOT of problems in my life. Like going golfing with my dad, going fishing with friends.... I'm the biggest asshole in the world if I have to do ANYTHING before 10am. So my insomnia has impacted my social life. It's effected my relationship with family and friends. There is no doubt about that. And I'm sure it's also effecting my health. Because back in the day I could sleep 4 hours and still go to work, then go to the gym afterwards and feel fine. These days I can't function at all unless I get a minimum of 7 hours of sleep. So half of me feels like I'm missing the best half of the day. The other half of me feels like night is the best time of day. Because noones awake, everything is silent and calm. No traffic on the roads. I just like how peaceful it is at night. Yet I still miss waking up early in the morning to do things with friends and family. And for that reason, I don't think I'm that intelligent.

I really think intelligent people go to bed early. Like 9pm early.

Interesting article. I would like to see the actual study as well. I have read studies that say the wealthy and successful usually wake up very early.
