    Giving is life.

I am a giver, not a matcher, not a taker.

Giving is the best overall approach in life...

Alas these days in business there is such an imbalance between the elite like G and the masses hence the playing field is not level that is why the BHW community should stay united to keep fighting - battling and winning against the odds...

In what sense? Just Kidding LOL! :D

I am mainly a giver. Taking will only get you so far in life.

    Giving = Better Karma :)

FTA "Across all three settings, the givers were the worst performers. The engineers with the lowest productivity and the most errors were those whose colleagues rated them as doing many more favours than they received in return. Similarly, the medical students with the poorest grades, and the sales people with the lowest annual revenue, were those who agreed most strongly with statements like ?I love to help others?. By putting other people first, the givers ran out of time and energy to complete their own work effectively. "

then the next paragraph: "So who were the best performers? A close look at the data revealed an unexpected answer: not the takers, not the matchers, but the givers again. "

In my humble conclusion, the article is absolutely useless and the data doesn't speak at all about givers, takers, or matchers, but on actual skill. Think about it. The ones who give and help the most will obviously be at the extremes; either extremely talented with ample resources and time to help others, or extremely untalented and due to that lack of talent they go out of there way to support others.

And then we have the conclusion of the article: "givers can climb higher than takers or matchers."
^ It isn't a giving attitude to be planning to be a giver to climb higher...That is a taker posing as a giver.

This article is venom, and the author is a professor at Wharton...without tenure, I hope.

If you were in prison, you would still be a "giver" then? ;)

I used to think that being a giver was the best and most honorable way
to be. Then someone later told me that it is important to ACCEPT things
too. If you refuse a gift that someone sincerely wants to give to you,
you are depriving them of the joy of giving. So I guess you could say
I am now both a giver and a taker in that respect.

    Cheers! - "Wiz"

With that post count of yours in one month, you are clearly a giver! likely a taker in other respects though

I am both! because I have seen so many kind people who was only the giver but never gave herself an opportunity to take and at the end she was burnt out and lost everything. Now she can't give nor have opportunity to take..sad :(

I tell myself to be a giver, but as of right now, I don't think this option is possible. I'd rather contribute and add value to other than taking advantage of someone's fortune. Once I have enough value to contribute, I would do it absolutely. Just you wait guys ...

Since we were given the gift of life, for me probably the most important thing is to give back to others without looking for anything in return, this is one of the most fulfilling experience of all.
