I want to build an affiliate domain and found a cool ".ws" domain. Should I consider buying it, or is it trash?

It has nothing to do with any aspect of SEO
.com in industry standard

i wouldn't trust a link from a .ws domain

I would avoid it for any serious project :
check its wiki entry:
Actual use: Not used much inside Samoa, popular for domain hacks, URL shortening and emoji domains

every site that I’ve seen that use .ws is either spam, scam, or black hat (the worse kind). You can forget about email deliverability. No trust in the extension. You’re better off with a long tld.

Bad for branding, but you might still earn from it if you are into churn n burn stuffs. Traffic matters at the end of the day, if you have a source.

Imagine you have a project that has something to do with WebSockets, .WS in that case is perfect for branding :D

True!! Domain hacks are great too. I was speaking in general. These are special cases lol.

Your web site, it's content make your domain name popular, not vice versa.

you can rank it, if that's what you mean. But I don't think it boasts the same trust among people like popular TLDs (com, net, org)
do you believe that some TLDs are not that easy to rank?

Do competitor research in that niche. Do lots of ws sites show up? Or are they mostly .com or .net?

Unless the website is from a well known company, I probably wouldn't even visit a website with a .ws domain name.

If you are going to make some private panel inside you can go for it.

BUT, you need to know that it looks spammy, exactly like xyz tld
