Are video based sites disadvantaged in SEO because of lack of text content?

Placement in Google seems to be based largely on backlinks and relevant written content. If a site is mostly, or totally based on video, is it at a significant disadvantage competing against text based sites? Despite having good video content.

If you do proper seo they will rank very good..There is a thread somewhere in here regarding videos..In a couple of years statistics show that everyone would be watching videos in order to find what he wants instead of reading text..

You can rank in http://video.google.com too.

Oh, elpadrino23 is right too, i am guilty of checking youtube videos before buying something online. always looking for video reviews and a 360 view of the product. :P

An important consideration with any site today besides having a good backlink strategy, is to have a way to carry on a conversation or keep the content fresh and constantly updated. This is what the attraction to forums was and now why social media is so big. So if you have a way for users to rate and comment on the videos that are on your web site, you will get the attention of the search engines.

I hope you find this helpful.

Peace!

deviatus,

My music website barely has any content and I'm ranking for very high competition keywords.

It all has to do with your title, tags, description (All In One SEO Pack for Wordpress), and backlinks.
