are there ways to guarantee immediate rank increase that don't include buying PBNs?

So I've been testing lately and the only thing that has really improved my ranks in an "on/off" type "switch" way, where I can just do it and it works, is buying expired domains/PBNs. I see an immediate rank improvement when I do this.

I'm looking for ways that don't cost cash out of pocket but still really work. Anyone have any to share? Thanks in advance.

There is no real subtitute for PBNs.

You can buy guest posts in big magazines etc., but they'll cost you a lot more for the same effect, even worse, the power diminishes slowly as they keep wandering off the mainpage, deeper and depper into some archives. Plus, these guys will only link to real high quality sites, even if you pay them.

Then you can rent links on SAPE or other networks, even directly, but the monthly costs sum up, making it more expensive mid- to long-term as well. In addition, SAPE can be dangerous if you don't know exactly what you are doing.

Last but not least, tiered spam still works, but no matter what the GSA (just an example, there are plenty tools) and web2.0 fanboys may say, the effectiveness is going down for quite a time now and with penguin probably becoming realtime in the future, it's not the smartest strategy.

So, PBNs are basically the best bang for the buck, no secret soup, magic bullets, hidden loopholes.

As Starki said, there's no "secret sauce" you're going to find right now aside from good content, on-site SEO, and tiered link building. Other than that, PBN's are your best bet right now. They provide a large source of authority and link juice all at once.

There are many methods, but the ones worth the shot besides PBNs are manual and take big amounts of time and labor.

Many of us never buy any service but rank our websites well, because we do link building daily for our sites. You should know little about link building which helps you to get good ranking.

Well you could do outreach and get guest post opportunities that way, then write the content yourself and get links that way, but it'll be very time consuming and a pain to deal with if you dont plan on using tools to make the job easier.

Also you could build web2.0s, press releases, social profiles and set up some google alerts for link opportunities, but that wont bring you the same linking power as PBNs/outreach.

I'm fairly new to the IM trade, but every response I've seen so far backs up what I've noticed myself.

Buy a decent expired domain with a good backlink profile and TF/DA/PA/etc.., even if you spend a couple hundred bucks, it'll save you time (money) in the mid term even. Think about it like this, you buy a domain for $300 with a nice link profile, indexed pages, and even semi-topically relevant as a bonus. Could you match the metrics with link-building and PBN building within a week? If you make $30/hr, that's only 10 hours of work to get all that. It might not always be as easy to do, as Google adapts, but right now you don't really have to expend too much effort to find these types of sites.

As for using PBN links to point at your site, I've noticed a tremendous effect as well, with Google especially. For example, I recently put an article on a domain that I purchased. Great content, matched to the site well, etc... Targeted a KW with low-med competition and about 1300 searches a month. A single PBN link put it on the 7th page of Google after 3 days. The PBN site isn't all that powerful, but the response from Google is quick. Now, not that anyone really cares that much about Yahoo or Bing; I've noticed PBN sites don't garner such a response from Y or B, but they respond very well to Web 2.0 links.

For instance, the same post hasn't shown for any of the PBN keywords in B or Y yet, but are on the first page for another 2 KWs that post was targeting—which I built some Web 2.0 links for (only a handful so far.)

I think, from my very novice understanding, that tiered linking and social signals are a much for longer term support and viability, but any kind of quick response you get from Google nowadays will be from links that come from higher authority domains, such as SAPE, Guest Post, or PBN.

Aside: I notice that the simply act of 301 redirecting more powerful domains still boosts overall site authority metrics well. While this won't directly help you rank for a keyword, it can give any internal linking you do a slight boost. I'm not entirely sure how much weight google places on internal links, but I've def. noticed I have started to rank for terms that I've only sent internal links to. Nothing past page 7 or 8, but that's still progress for something that only takes a couple seconds.

Well, since you're looking for guaranteed quick results, the best way forward is just complete black hat PBN networks.

You pretty much answered your question.

But I'm telling you right now, if you're looking for results that would withstand the test of time, I would focus more on building a quality authoritative website.

There's really no other way around it.

I know it requires a lot of heavy-lifting over and quite a bit of time, but if you are unwilling to invest in the long-term health and value of your website, there is really not too many options on the table.
