    Anyone know of a wordpress plugin that displays the typical facebook, twitter, share etc numbers at the top of a post that you can artificially inflate? For example inflate them to a few hundred likes and shares for social proof, but visitors can still actually like and share them organically?

    If you artificially inflate your social media shares, won't your website visitors just find out that you had deceived them once they go to your social media pages where the real numbers are displayed?

    If you still want to go through with this, here is a list of social media plugins you could use (and possibly manipulate if they haven't been updated in a while):

    You could always buy 'fake' likes for pretty darn cheap. Just be sure to get them from a reputable supplier or they probably won't stick or harm you more than do good. Or perhaps just code your own little button that looks like the facebook button or whatever social media button that goes to your fb page when clicked. I could easily make something like that for you if you're interested.

    Another option is using Like4Like for Facebook likes. You can get a decent number of likes quickly, but do not expect the accounts that like your page to be of high quality.

    It's not about showing fake facebook likes of fanpage but fake shares.

    If people see that a particular post has been shared 300 times, tweeded 500 times etc. they would be more likely to share it too. Psychology :D

    You can do it with some CSS magic. I don't actually do it on my site, but figured I'd test out to see how one might want to do it.

    I use a plugin called Wordpress Social Ring

    I use Chrome's Inspect Element

    Look for the part where the Likes or Shares is counted. For likes, it looks something like
    Code:
    <span class="PluginCountTextDisconnected">
    Then modify it with CSS's and :before
    Code:
    [COLOR=#888888][FONT=Consolas]span.pluginCountTextDisconnected:before[/FONT][/COLOR][FONT=Consolas] {[/FONT]
    [LIST]
    [*][COLOR=#C80000]content[/COLOR]: '20' !important; }
    [/LIST]

    So if you have 1 like, it will show up as 201 ("20" then "1", not 20+1=21)

    Of course, as you hit double or triple digits on likes, it will jump in an odd fashion ("20" then "10" is 2010 likes, not 30)

    I had to do some further CSS modification to make the box width big enough to handle the new numbers, but wasn't hard.

    A google search of rewrite text with CSS should show a StackOverflow article on how to do some basic modifications like what I did above.
