Are spambots signing up for my email list?

A week or two ago, I signed up at Aweber and set up an opt-in form for my website. I plan on making a newsletter where I can promote CPA offers and whatnot to interested people...

Anyway, I keep getting these emails notifying me that people are signing up. I only put the form there two days ago and I already have 5 signups. This is surprising because my site doesn't even get that much traffic; no more than 100 uniques a day.

Is it possible that some kind of automated bot is signing up for it for some reason? Maybe they're mistaking it for a registration field to post comments? I mean, the names and email addresses sound real, but they could easliy fake it.

    What do you guys think?

They see an input field and fill it.

Well this is odd, because my articles have actual comment sections that only require a name and email address (no registration or Captcha required) and there haven't been any attempts to post comments... A big fat zero.

Is there a reason they might ignore the real comments but fill out the opt-in?

Maybe the opt-in is above the comment form?
Does your comment form have any captcha?

Why would spam bots want to sign up to your opt in?

Highly doubt its a bot, a bot would signup in high quantities if you consider them spam bots, most likely people just opting in , i would send them an email with a poll asking what they think, in general I noticed my email optin lists love being asked about their opinions and see if you get any responses, even though 5 emails is not much you can always email them with a random email account asking them a very generic question if your worried about bounces

5-10 email subscribers then it's OK. Don't think it's spam. Might be few people signed up to your list.
