Im looking into getting a RDP soon and I prefer one from overseas, but Im worried about the lag it may have. The last time I had a rdp was a few years ago and it terrible lag, but idk if it was due to my 3Mbps down 300Kbps home connection(I now have a 30Mbps down 4Mbps connection) or the fact that it was located in Germany.

It mainly depends on your connection bro. I am on 50mbit up/down and to each rpd/vps i've been connecting is fast enough

from other locations where connection is slower, there is some lag when i am logging in

It's not about the speed per se. Try pinging the IP, if it's more than 200ms, you'll likely experience lag. Make sure the connection is not congested too. If you have router that has traffic shaping feature, you can prioritize RDP connection so it always has the lowest latency.

I am in India and connect to my server in Canada over RDP without any lags. I have a 8mbps connection and in India 8 is not really 8 :)

Technically, yes. The more the distance between you and the server, the more the latency becomes.

But if you're on a fast connection, the lag will be negligible provided the computer you're connecting to also has a decent connection.

I'm pretty sure not even the brightest mind on the earth can answer that question. How do you know what IP are they going to provision to you?

But, you can ask them to give you a 'test' IP to ping.
