I want to know if the ratings (the star ratings that many sites use, such as wordpress) that you can get with plugins are as beneficial to SEO as comments are.

Yes I am aware you can have both, but I would prefer to just have the ratings. Does google pick up all the good things like IP addresses etc. from ratings like they do with comments as proof that many different individuals are making use of your site etc.?

Hmm, wait... Google can see the IPs of users making blog comments on my site? Is that actually true?

if you get many good ratings, your site will make top of list or any other thing so users will visit will visit your site more often than site listed at last which increases your sites value

I have noticed that when it comes to local search, reviews are weighted more heavily (star rating, number rating things like that). On a national scale, ratings are helpful but other signals are deemed more important in the SERPs. Hope that helps.
