Are page builders any good?

Are page builders such as Divi and elemntor better than normal themes?

I personally have had bad experiences,

1) most websites made with the builder look the same, they all follow a rough design theme as it’s hard to add custom design elements - and if you can then you might as well do 100% own code.

2) a few I used were terrible for SEO.

More recently they have been improved so I wish you the best, but yeah the above is my experiences.

You clearly haven't tried WP Bakery that thing is amazing (obviously the customizing features).

Now a date I can do my own websites, but I’ll definitely have a look - might be good for those quick temporary websites. Thanks buddy

What are you talking about. I can build a site with elementor that rivals the best sites in the world. It's about the plugins you use. And the starter theme. Some themes have powerful backend and the HIGHLY customizable

Ive also built a one of the best car classifieds with wp bakery. LIKE PUTS AUTOTRADER TO SHAME...

Pagebuilders have matured a lot over the past couple of years. They allow almost anyone to create a site without having to know CSS and/or JS/PHP, although some basic CSS knowledge definitely helps. For clients on a budget they are fine, even for clients with a larger budget and an emphasis on Time to Market.

For forward looking clients, who want the latest and greatest, the CSS Grid Spec. is a better option, but definitely one that needs a bespoke WP solution. You can save a ton on CSS rules, and with the help of conditional loading things can really fly.

Some of my favorites are:
Beaver Builder,
Elementor,
Thrive Architect.

WPBakery, not so much.
