are niche edits still useful for link building?

Both have their pros and cons, but what is more important is the quality of the page and its relevance, not the method itself.
I have noticed how nicely niche edits have done where they were made organically within the existing and indexed article, which had the right context; the guest post allows to have more control over all that.

niche edits have been shown to work before but i would not say whether or not the link will work based on the type of link. sometimes, it can actually be good to have a relevant link on a piece of old content if that particullar page receives traffic already. as long as u avoid websites that promote any type of edit randomly on their website, everything should be fine.

I think niche edits can still be useful when the existing article is genuinely relevant and the link fits naturally.

Both can work well. Niche edits can be effective when placed on relevant aged pages while guest posts offer more control over the content and placement. Quality and relevance matter most.
