    Just reading:

    https://hammerheaddomains.com/how-to-choose-pbn-domains/

Telling:"If a domain you register indexes in google, it means that google has NOT assigned a penalty to the domain"

I kind of doubt that. Luckily, I dont have any own experiences in this case, but some feedback from members would be nice here...

I am sure, even indexed domains can have penalties, or at least no "ranking power"...

Be sure to check manual and algorithm penalties, due diligence is always better in any case. Especially when your gonna put a ton of effort and money on that domain. Good luck !

No it's not. I've seen indexed domains with bad history that simply wouldn't rank.

I have a small mountain of penalized domains that are still indexed after expiring. My experience mostly involves thin content, so I can't speak to backlink penalties, but being indexed doesn't mean a thing in my book.

That's not true, indexed domains can have penalties, and actually different types of penalties.

yes, indexed domain can have penalties.
    Case 1:
I got a penalty for one of my domain dropped overnight from top 10 to 50+ for around 30 KWs. Got webmasters' msg too about thin content even though the site has 1k+ word content on each page.(some copied content) The site is still indexed after 1 month but rankings for all the KWs hover around 50-80.

    Case 2:
I found this amazing domain with links from some big news sites and it's homepage was indexed with hosting page default. Didn't checked the web archive of the page. After the website rebuilt the homepage also got deindexed in a month. Checked the archive and It was used for some Japanese spam.Tried reconsideration 2 times but was not able to lift the thin content penalty so I let it expire.
