Paid posts can be worth it if site has real traffic clean SEO and fits your niche Avoid sites selling links in bulk or with low DR and spammy OBL Quality beats price always in long run

Yes, guest posts are still viable if done naturally focus on quality content, relevant sites, and not over-optimizing anchor text.

Without a doubt, guest blogs may still be used for white hat SEO, provided they are written with sincerity. Put more emphasis on authoritative websites, high-quality content, and relevancy than merely backlinks. Actual worth is still valued by Google.

Since when guest post have been considered white hat? First news.

Any form of link building motivated by a promoter is considered black hat. In fact, 99% of the "guest post" sites you are going to find nowadays are not only black hat, but useless hat... Perfectly catalogued as b**ls**t by G's algo.

guest posting for the purpose of gaining backlinks is black hat and google hates it. The problem is that google cann't tell (if you're doing things right) when links inside guest posts are purchased or acquired naturally (the owner links to your site just because he/she finds it valuable), which is why guest posts still work and it doesn't matter if they're white hat or not :)

Yep, guest posts are still white hat, if you do them right. You can follow this steps:
  • Real sites: You must try to get link from real traffic site. That site have organic visitor, low spam score, DA more than 30 & legit backlink.
  • Relevant: You should try to take link from niche related websites.
  • Quality content: In which content you get link from (not spun junk). Content should be real & human written.
  • No shady anchor: Must try to anchor relevance keyword naturally not keyword stuffing.
If you're spamming guest posts on low-quality blogs just for links, that’s grey or even black hat. But legit outreach and content what it is? Still solid white hat & increase your authority and rank in search engine.

Yes, guest posts are still white hat - if done right. When the content is high-quality, relevant and provides value to the audience (not just for links), it stays within Google's guidelines and remains a strong SEO strategy.

Yes, Guest posts are still considered white hat as long as they offer real value, are placed on relevant websites, and aren't just for backlinks.

You have to be selective while choosing sites for guest posts and then only there will be good effect. Stay away from guest posts being offered in packages , they are spam most of the times.

There are white hat and black hat guest posts.
Once you need to pay for it and you are writing just to build artificial links to boost your website authority, it becomes a black or at least gray hat tactic.

Buying links is frowned upon by Google but it all depends on the context. If you're buying links from a link farm without much authority and rest of the content is all random content that has nothing to do with your site. That's easy to detect.

if you get links from high authority sites in your niche, paid or not, they still count AFAIK.

Any link you pay for can be termed Black Hat, unless it's tagged with
Code:
rel="sponsored"
rel="sponsored"
I think this will help, thanks for the comments..

Then what is the best way to get contextual backlinks?

Yes, guest posts are still viable within white-hat SEO when done properly — on relevant platforms, with valuable content and natural links. This approach helps not only with rankings but also with building credibility.
Thanks for the info, I am trying to get some buts its really hard to find genuine websites now for free...

Guest posts are paid links and thus they are not white hat as buying links is against google rules.

Technically, any paid link opportunity isn’t considered white hat by Google's guidelines. But in reality, what truly matters is whether the link is accepted and trusted by Google. If it works without raising red flags, many consider it a practical even if not purely white hat strategy.

Are guest posts still viable under white hat SEO best practices?
Yes, guest posts are still white hat if you do them right. As long as the content is valuable and posted on real, relevant sites, not just for backlinks , it’s totally fine.
