I have some people wanting to have websites under the new generic domains. Is this a good idea for seo or does it hinder them?

Well only Google knows. But if you were them, would you give any more weight to a fitness site that was a .fitness than one that was a .com ??

No they are not very good at all, they are just a new way for registrars to earn money. I would stick to .com domains in any case. They are even much cheaper then this new endings which cost sometime $30 per year. That is the price of 3x .com domains.

yes, i'm interested with this case study as well

Most of top ranks still .com, as the generic domains just showed up couple years ago, they need age and good backlinks to beat the .com version lol

But how much the weight of generic domains in front of google?
