I saw a guru video the other day and it mentioned that nobody uses forum profiles anymore... when did this happen? Are they out of style now?

They're the least contextual and relevant links you can get, they were never great. Some profiles let you put more content on your profile, like blog posts. These are better.

I used to be able to index 90% of my forum profiles, now it's extremely hard. Which makes me believe G manually de-prioritized indexing them.

They got nerfed, thats for sure, but those are still not "pure damage" links you should avoid. While its true that those should not be core of your backlink structure, you might still want to use those as lower tier (2nd, or preferably 3rd) links. But again, mix them with blog comments, trackbacks etc., forum profiles will add Google's beloved diversity. Just do not overdo it with XRumer or outsourcing building thousands of profiles to your money site, you do not want to see results of that :D.

Well, it's kinda hard to rank backlinks, if even possible. But I would say that right now, you should be more careful with forum profiles. That won't make them worse, just... You have to be more aware with those.

Google has devalued these links tremendously, most of it comes down to the fact that they have little to no unique content which Google devalues/doesn't index.

If anything you'll need to use these as secondary links, and try and fill them with some content to help them get indexed. Then, run those through a backlink indexer and you'll have better results. At the end of the day though it's becoming more and more of a hassle to actually see any benefit from them.

I personally wouldn't call them devalued. They are not great, but they are still links. Links that pass Juice and PR to your sites. Forum profile links are great if you want to improve your diversity and also add raw links to your backlink profile. Use them for raw links to your homepage and inner pages, but don't get too carried away with them. :) Use them with moderation and with raw links and they can benefit your site :)

Same here, I wouldn't say they're completely useless.

I use high PR Edu forum profiles, and they work well.. but you need quality ones. I don't go over the top with them.

However, if you are building no PR, shitty, random forum profiles then those may do more harm than good. Id rather choose EDU profiles with a nice PR.
