Are "Fake" Warez Sites Legal?

I currently have a site with an EMD that promotes an illegal copy of a movie. Competition was low and it received hundreds of thousands of searches per month. Is having a site like this illegal, even if I don't host any illegal content? Thanks in advance.

If on your site, you link to a source where people can really download
a copy, you're in the danger zone.
Especially if you live in the US and have assets...
Since you said it's fake, don't worry!
You could get copyright issues with the domain.
But as they say: "No balls, no Glory!"

It isn't illegal to even link to a site where you can download those movies.
 
I think it is best to refer to the law of which country you may be in. I think in many countries even linking to the real downloads is forbidden. But it is a good question about fake warez, couldn't answer that myself..
 
You could get into trouble, and I'd have to write much more about that, but shortly for what you mention.. nah. Anyway, by what you said, if you have an offshore domain reg. you're half the way, the other part is getting an offshore hosting. But there is still left a slight space of paranoia that would make you always wonder... what if.
 
As long as domain name doesn't contain copyrighted phrase it's 100% legal. If it does, then it's different thing, but if you hand over the name once copyright owner requests it, you should be fine.

agree with this, however don't try monetizing the site with adsense or the site, or even your account, may get banned.
 
I actually use Hostgator and I live in the US. I'm not planning to link to pirated content either. This niche seems really desperate for any sites so I'm hoping a content locker will work.

If it is illegal to link to the real download, then wouldn't all the search engines would be breaking the law ?
 
If you're just going to rank and throw up a content locker I don't see how this could be illegal. You said you have an EMD for the movie so just be careful with that making sure you take any red flag emails seriously.

Just an update: I'm ranked 10th for a keyword with 50k searches and 18th for a keyword with 33k searches. Anybody know the best CPA networks for warez traffic? Would blanking the referrer using a content locker be ill advised?
