With Facebook's new 5-star system, has anyone read or tested anything enough to come to a conclusion whether they're used in the SERPs yet or not?

Hardly. The Facebook reviews work like other review sites except, it's affecting less in terms of SERPs. Let me explain:

There are instances where a new review or two will shift SERPs but it's not because reviews per say add value. In fact, they can even decrease value. Reviews are a double-edged sword when it comes to SERPs because:

    1. Reviews add content - heard about keyword-optimized? Adding one on an almost over-optimzied page can easily wreak havoc while placing one on a not-so-optimized page can greatly add value. It all depends on how you use it. It is simply text, after all.

    2. Adding new content/update - a lot of pages tend to fall off SERPs since search engines look at the content as outdated (depends on the situation and the competition). Adding new reviews/comments tend to help since they signal "new content" to search engines. This happens a lot for pages on authority sites (ex. RipOffReport).

So why does Facebook reviews affect less compared to other review sites? Because the content is a lot less compared to the ones like Yelp, Google Places and others. It is simply text, after all.

It's not the 5-star system that help you in SERP, but the user's engagement (low bounce-rate) in your site that counts.

Never used it. Does it have a major effect on SERP's?

Agree. Low active Page with Review can be the problem. Try testing it on a Active FB Page.

All of it works fine for actual conversions and consumer confidence but you will not see much if not any SERP improvement.

Haven't tested it but since the star rating does come in searches, it could be a factor.
