Are European niche/affiliate sites viable?

Hi All,

Long time lurker here, but decided to finally create an account and become active in the community. I've decided to take the plunge into Affiliate Marketing/SEO/Content sites as I have a month of free time in between jobs.

Recently completed a well known affiliate marketing course and have spent the past few weeks doing niche research. One thing I've immediately noticed is that there is a HUGE amount of competition for virtually any niche out there in the English-speaking world - quite intimidating for a newcomer like me. Because I'm fluent in another European language however I figured I could maybe try my luck with an affiliate site in that region instead. So I looked at a super competitive evergreen niche which is incredibly tough to break into in the US/UK and saw that for this country there are a whole bunch of low DR/DA sites ranking and a ton of golden keywords with <10 KD and lots of traffic.

It's also a niche that I'm fortunately quite passionate about so it would be quite a pleasure to build great content here. Bonus points for being covered extensively in the US so I could also draw lots of inspiration, translate and localise content in this country.

One of the things that's holding me back however is that one of the authorities on affiliate marketing I look up to (Gael & Mark from AH) don't really dabble in European affiliate sites - they said as much in one of their podcasts but didn't elaborate, so I'm guessing it's because they find the effort/ROI tradeoff to not be worth it.

Hence my question - do any marketers here have content sites they run in smaller countries and different languages to English? Have you found it eaiser and have you had much success? There are obviously big implications in terms of ability to build backlinks, find content writers, do things like HARO, etc... Also bearing in mind that there will be a cap on the amount of traffic/revenue you can get depending on things like the size of population and GDP per capita.

Keen to open up a discussion here where people can share their experiences!

Hey, yes! We call them foreign niche sites. I do possess multiple foreign affiliate and adsense niche sites and yes, they are comparatively easy to rank -- especially if you find low competition niche and keywords which is not tough here.

Good luck!
