So, if I find some expired domains with backlinks from bbc, the guardian etc., but they have low metrics like TF: 5-10 are they still worth and good enough to use for a PBN?

Give priority to backlinks. SEO metrics comes second.

Metrics are the most important thing, so even if the domain has got hundreds of contextual links from huge authority sites and niche related ones at that, if the metrics are not that great then the domain will be useless.
You can PM me all the useless domains and I will dispose of them accordingly :D

OP The expired domains' backlinks ratios and metrics are both important when considering buying a domain. Other due diligence steps to consider is checking the registrar drops via whois.org, check in screenshots.com, etc.

I prefer give importance to both backlinks and metrics before buying the domains...

Metrics are nice to prefilter lists of domains, especially if you are looking for interesting domains in an automated way, but they are never a substitute for looking at the backlink profile.

One of many reasons: Spammers use expireds as well. Even if metrics look great, you don't want some formerly good domain that was abused by some chinese "original nike shoes" or "cheap viagra" spammer in between. These domains still have the old authority links, nice metrics, but a crapload of spam on top.

Trust what you see, not the machine generated data. They are just guidelines/info for you to make your judgement.
