Im building a site and want to either do seo or hire someone to do seo for it. It's going to be an online sex shop. Will Big G consider this an adult site or regular site?

Does it matter by the keywords i choose? For instance:

    adult toys
    glass vibrators

    are clean words while:

    sex toys
    clit massagers

    are "dirty" words

So, does anyone have experience with this and does anyone know the answer to this?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

Mmm not too obvious, thats why im asking. And even if I use non sexual keywords, there will still be sexual words on the site itself, thats why im asking if it matters at all.

Also is it harder to rank adult, porn sites or easier? Are there slightly different techniques?

Yes, it will be considered sexual / adult content. Adult SEO is relatively similar but, higher ban rates on things like social bookmarking, article directories, etc. It requires a bit more creativity.

Also make sure you use a dedicated IP address for the adult site, if you have other sites hosted on the same box. I remember my sites being penalized because of not doing so.

Yes, absolutely adult. If you want confirmation, you can look at AdWords TOS, but take my word for it, it's an adult product to G (and most others).

Nope. Google bot will just treat the dildo as a lollipop and classify your site as kid toys.

Judging by the irrelevant stuff my (regular) site has shown up under, it just might do that!

i think most of the sex websites dont do seo..

its because, 90 percent of the users' google setting is "safe search on" and google dont display the adult sites. If you are selling sex toys, i wud suggest other type of marketing techniques. like banner ads from famous porn sites, affiliates etc...

    just my 2 cents..

You need manual approval of your adwords ads if they're going into the adult category - it can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days.

Um....they don't want the people who are surfing with safe search. They want the people searching for their keywords. And you'd be shocked at the amount of money some of the big sites spend on seo.

    very true...

@napster - and how would you explain keyword

    sex toys

to have 250,000 exact monthly searches in US alone... youre gonna tell me most of these people have safe search on and cant see any sex shops? thats beyond ridiculous

Very well said - and completely true. As in many other cases, just get backlinks from sites that are in the same or close to your niche and do your own onsite SEO well. I'd still avoid getting links from straight XXX-sites... Sex toy affiliate sites are a good start. Some well trusted health and dieting sites will do just fine as articles about "Rest & Recreation" can be posted there as well ;)

That's adult content all the way hands-down, and you can forget about using adsense on it though I'm assuming you want to sell adult products on the site. Well, as long as your search engine users have the safe search turned off G will serve up your pages in the results pages.
