lets say If I do a 301 redirect for a blog post to another category or post on my website... would this be bad for SEO?

    No, it's perfectly fine.
301 is a permanent redirect. It means that some resource have permanently moved.
302 redirects are worse. Always use 301. However, various studies have shown that some link juice is lost with 301, but is such a small fraction that it cannot hurt. But if you can, avoid redirects, otherwise use 301.
