I understand you dont want to buy a domain that was 301'ed because it's already lost its link juice. But if it was 302'ed, that's ok.

The problem is, archive.org never shows 301. It shows everything as 302. So even if a domain was 301'ed, it will show up as 302.
How do I know this? I bought a domain from godaddy, 301'ed it to another domain. months later I looked it up in archive and it shows 302.

What can be done about this? is there any other way to check if a domain has lost its link juice due to 301 redirect?

Unless you are buying a PRed domain, buying a domain which was 301ed to some other site is fine in my opinion (unless it was redirected to porn site etc). Once you buy that domain, you redirect that domain to your site and the juice will flow to your site now. There is no way that domain which was redirected would lose its link juice because link juice is due to backlinks. As long as it retains its backlinks, it will pass link juice.

Yes you can use it whichever way you want to and it should retain its link juice :)
