Has anyone here ever tested creating Android commerce apps that promote products redirecting to affiliate links (like say ClickBank) ? I always just assumed that the app stores would quickly remove apps like this or mark your account for spam. Was curious of how much of a valid tactic this would be to drive traffic.

Good thinking but you are about 2 years late for this train:(
If you're thinking about a simple webview app that open the ClickBank product sales page - don't even try , the app will be banned in a matter of hours or days tops. If you make a fully functional app with many tabs, nice design and you compare products, reviews, before-after pics etc etc etc useful content - you might survive the almighty Google bot review. The problem now - almost nobody searches for CB type of products on Google Play so you must rank it in Google. That ain't as hard as ranking a website (it's a google product so they rank easier) but the competition for those keywords can easily get your app banned with just a few clicks on the "report" button. Google bans apps first and checks if there is an issue later if you contact them and they actually read your reinstatement request.

I'm trying something similar now but with apps published on other app stores which are not that strict but the rankings are going nowhere for now

tghy012 is right. You can't make an app to redirect to a cpa offer.
You can make a legit looking app that later sends them to a cpa offer from what Ive seen on the play store.
I was looking at the dating niche the other month and this dude had a simple app that had a few tabs that featured different landing pages which all redirected to a dating cpa, and a tab with an article on how to get a date.

There are quite a few of those apps but if you dig deeper you'll see they all haven't been updated in months. For some reason Google doesn't check older apps regularly and some apps fall through the cracks. But the majority I'd say 98% get banned instantly. And that app with the dating offers - the owner batter never updates it because it will trigger a review and will get banned.

you're right. i found these apps when i was researching it 6+ months ago.

OP if you're looking for a mobile twist, obtain the source code for popular apps, switch out the title and textures, and upload it as your own.

You will get banned if you are starting to promote cpa in apps. They will be removed in short time in matter of days.

Yeah this kind of confirms what I thought, this would prob not be worth the time.

But I have another separate question about app stuff. Ok so lets say you have a video game app totally legit and all, are you allowed to have push notifications that point to a CPA link like maybe a email submit? Or is this something that would get your app removed too ? Doesn't seem like a totally deviant thing to do but I'm new to this app market stuff.

As already mentioned you are a bit too late.

The way most people do it now is to embed an optin page in an about us section within your application so you can gather a list.

You'd get shut down within a matter of hours now and you will risk your developer account.

Just make an informative app in a niche with little competition and put banners on it.

Push notifications are a big no no too, you can only notify the user about an update within an app. If you mix a CPA offer you will also risk your account.

Try using a coupon code instead.

Ok yeah I was curious about the push notify thing.

So I can create coupon codes for paid versions of my apps on Google Play and then in my push notifications say like "hey guys use this X code to get a 40% reduction on my newest app" ?
