I receive a lot of PM's related to some of the offline methods I have shared. Many times it is simple questions about their business and what they can do to improve conversion, and sometimes it is a "hey look at my site and tell me what you think" and stuff along those lines. I wanted to put a quick little suggestion list together for anyone that is running an offline company or is thinking about it. These 4 tips are so simple..yet so many people ignore them - and I guarantee it is costing them money.

These are all fairly simple/low cost things you can do to make your business stand out and not turn away potential clients.

TIP #1: GET A DEDICATED OFFICE NUMBER & 800 NUMBER

Why: Because you are going to be asking clients to spend a lot of money with you. A cell phone number or a magic jack number are not professional. Not at all. And trust me, potential clients are going to reverse search your number and look for it on directories. If they see that it is a "mobile number" they are going to seek out another company. You can get a complete office solution for around $70 a month. Unlimited calling, a toll free number, a local number, and a fax number. Don't be cheap and try to cut corners with this. Also, once you get your numbers submit them to 411 and the yellow pages. When a potential clients searches for your business on these sites (and they will) they will feel comfort in seeing a real business show up.

TIP #2: GET A OFFICE ADDRESS

Why: Because you need it to get listed in the phone directories, local listings, and to put on your website. Even if you do not have a physical office location get a virtual office. DO NOT use a P.O. Box - that will turn away business, trust me. Again, potential clients will research you - the Internet makes it so easy - having a business address will help with the professional image.

TIP #3: MAKE YOUR WEBSITE YOUR BEST EXAMPLE

Why: Because this is your tool to attract clients. I see so many companies that are pitching website design and their own personal site looks like a drunk 3 year old designed it. Or they use a WP theme that 5,436 other companies use. Spend time and money to make your site your best work. Capture their attention or they will be on to the next one.

TIP #4: GET A MERCHANT ACCOUNT

Why: Because if you only accept PayPal some business owners will be turned off. Don't believe me? We just landed a $x,xxx monthly account the other day that called in and the first question they asked was "do you accept credit cards?" - the last company they spoke to accepted them - but through PayPal - this business owner felt that if a company didn't have a merchant account then they were not a "real company" - I am not saying this is right or wrong - but many business owners feel this way. Yes, PayPal is popular in the "IM" world - but in regular business not so much. Also, the rates you pay with a merchant account are much cheaper than PayPal.

4 simple tips, but many do not pay attention ot them - and in the end it ends up costing them revenue...

    Great information - repped.

It's amazing how many people can't be bothered with the basics, I see it constantly.

Another one I would add is don't use Gmail / Hotmail accounts - use your domain and set up proper business emails, with professional signatures. Apart from 5 minutes of your time, it costs nothing.

Yup - while some people like the way gmail organizes it just screams "amateur"

Netmoney - just looked at my post and realised my hyphen may look like a negative sign before the 'repped'.... which was not the case, it was positive.

Netmoney1, your information is a true asset to this forum as I follow each and every post. Its always good to learn from someone that has been doing this a long time and helping people like myself out. Again your shares are appreciated. Also, if anyone is unsure about the content on their site meaning company site hire a copy writer to go over it as a second pair of eyes never hurts.

100% true - always have family and friends read over it also. And read your site copy 100 times over and put yourself in the shoes of a potential client. Even 1 single grammatical error can turn someone off. Just play it smart - think of how much $$$ is spent to lure potential clients to your websites - make sure they don't leave quickly because of something that could have been prevented with time and just a little bit of money.

You would think so lol...but I see examples every day. I get emails and mailers virtually every day from companies claiming to be the best online marketing agencies and their own site looks like a steamy pile of dog sh#t. Amazing how they are even in business. That just goes to show you how many business owners are clueless and just throw their marketing $$$ at anyone with a pulse.
