So I'm looking at the reviews for some waterproof pillow protectors on Amazon, and I notice a few of the one-star reviews say that the protectors aren't really waterproof. And after reading them, I find out that by waterproof, they mean pee-proof.

Apparently the pillow protectors do not stop urine from soaking through onto your pillows.

This is news to me. When something says waterproof I think they mean liquid-proof. Apparently pee isn't liquid. Or water. It's pee, and waterproof protectors should be able to protect against it when they say "waterproof."

I'm so confused. And also wondering who is peeing on their pillows.

Well, some people are into "WaterSports" and like to start their day with a "Golden Shower"
This could be a niche market to look into. Start an Amazon Review site for pee proof pillows.

I would've made the assumption that the pillow were purchased by sufferers or parents of suffers of sleep enuresis. It's fairly common among children and a minority of adults have the issue as well.

As for why it would end up on the pillow,I have a cousin who used to wet the bed when he was a child. The urine would often end up in various parts on and near the bed including the pillow and inexplicably on the walls.

I saw that in a few reviews. They were buried a bit towards the last page. I also saw one that said her dog pees on her pillows. Of course, this was after I posted this.

I'm still confused as to why a waterproof protector is not pee-proof.

And how urine wound up on your cousin's walls.

I had initially suspected that he was too indolent to use the toilet and urinated on the walls, although I later learnt that he would sleep naked after his clandestine nighttime dog humping sessions in the backyard.

Urine is roughly 95% water, so a waterproof pillow should protect against urine unless it's poorly made.
