The National Sheriffs' Association is upset over the 'police button' in the Waze navigation app.
The feature allows users to see the exact location of police officers. The worry is that criminals or terrorists can use it to evade, or even target, law enforcement.

Does google really own the Israeli company that makes it? Or since it is in the google play store they think they can shut it down by having it removed from there.

I remember reading about that app - apparently the police had started using the app themselves and uploading false location data to counteract the obvious advantage it would give criminals.

If cops are butthurt over this just wait until self-driving cars become mainstream. You can't really ticket a computer.

The DOJ can fuck over small police departments with ease.

What about implenting a way to detect if there is a cop using the service by data mining as well as having a way to report false information part on it, so when they discover cops sending out false information they can ban them from the service. And when they try to get around it by getting a new phone they can be charged in Federal court under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

    I doubt it.

The information is crowdsourced, so I can't see how anyone can be held legally liable for incorrect data they enter.
