Anywhere to really BUY a domain?

    Yes...exactly what the question asks.

I know the most common websites like GoDaddy and all that, but you have to pay a yearly price to keep the domain. Is there any way to actually BUY to own a domain?

I have so much experience with computers, the web, and even web designing, but never cared to find out that important part.

Not that I know of. ICANN regulates all the domain stuff. I believe the max period you can register a domain for is 10 years.

You cant own a domain name -- all you can do is rent them from ICAAN. Some registrars used to offer up to 100 yrs, I dont know if anyone does this -- but that was done internally, and would not show up on a whois.

Just rent it for 10 years, do it 10 times and you get it for 100 years, do you still need to renew it after 100 years ?

There is a way to own a domain actually. I'm not sure how but Global Domains International owns the .WS domain. Maybe they spent a huge amount of money for it then promoted their product hence why they are doing so good..

    I dunno.

You can't renew most .com's past a certain number of years, even if you do it multiple times.

ICANN handles all registration rentals, technically you are not paying for ownership but rather a "registry upkeep fee". Soon ICANN will open up TLD sales where you can own any .extension you want if you have the money to buy your extension then you can technically own all the domains; but good luck an extension will be way more than most can afford.

Also ICANNs new registration policy is a 10 year max on a domain, if you pay multiple 10x on it your registrar will just re-up after 9 years. Also you could become a registrar if you have the money and time, an easy way to get cheaper domains I suppose.
