run some sort of spyware/malware checker on it if you haven't (if all you're running is AV and you're trying to do BH stuff you need a resident spyware blocker, IMHO)

and if you're that worried about your workstation being mis-used put a sniffer on it and monitor the outbound traffic (and watch the inbound traffic while you're at it)...

    peace,

firewall and anti - virus/ spyware/ malware will only help u 50%. If you are too paranoid then ur best bet is wireshark and a good process explorer. You have to take complete control of your pc and understand what exactly is going on in there

a TCP/ip UDP veiwer will show you all outbound and inbound conections to your pc.
Add that to a good process viewer like allseeingeye. A good bot will p*ss all over AV's
    and firewalls.

what the hell? I just downloaded one of these tools, i actually downloaded this one here just to check it out and see if i have any random connections to my PC.

i found a system process and did a whois on it, turns out somehow this domain http://www.akamai.com is listening in on my browsing habits it seems. Must be some kinda addon with firefox or even a built in process to XP.

I reckon this company is really spying on people or something and sending browsing data back to a large database lol
