    Hey everyone,

I was taking a tutorial to help brush up on my responsive development skills and he mentions using "microdata" supported by Schema.org. He also says using microdata can give more technical SEO advantages... I have come across this briefly before, but just noticed it in passing.

What do you guys think? If anyone has been using the microdata, is there much of a difference between using it and not using it at all? Am thinking this will be something I have to make compulsory when I am building sites, if it does provide the S.E.O benefits talked about.

For those of you who want to know where the tutorial is, you can see it here:

Look forward to your thoughts and opinions :).

Always use it if you can find a category to use it for. Ecommerce, books, music and everything else will benefit greatly from it. Search engines can find the price, the name, manufacturer and everything else easier. It also shows up in the SERPs.

The only reason why you wouldnt use it is if your site can't be switched to html5.

i saw another white hat seo tut and the guy presenting is a pioneer of seo from the early days 1998 back when google was backrub or some shit and he "highly" recommended using schema markup and micro formats. ive been using them more and more ever since.

i guess having a crawler friendly site is not a bad idea.

it wont improve seo but it can definitely improve ctr. some sites use "recipe" microdata to display pictures in search engine next to their url. i think microdata works only with html5. i read somewhere that by pasting
will allow you to do it in xhtml but it doesnt work on one of my experimental sites.

Heatmap studies have shown that many SERP results with schema markup command not only more real estate on the page, but also drive more clicks, even if in position 3-4-5.
