I'm just curious what many use to create their niche sites. I've created many wordpress sites using Thesis but I think I want to try out Genesis this time. I wondered how important the appearance of an AdSense site really is. By that I mean, are there successful ($50+/mo) niche sites which are just plain old wordpress default theme, no nice graphics, etc or, would it benefit me to put my creativity and perfectionism to use and create a solid, well made site with lost of effort put in?

Genesis is a top-quality framework, very flexible and customizable, with a whole lot of great child themes. I use it for all my sites. This includes niche sites, authority sites, adsense, amazon, clickbank sites, etc.

As far as Genesis vs. Thesis is concerned, I think both are equally good. Use whichever one you're more comfortable with.

Genesis and Thesis are super-dooper-awesome because bloggers are paid to tell you that via their affiliate programs.

IMO you're better off making 10 websites during the time it takes you to wrestle learning either. And in the end, if you're website is ugly ... good job, people will be more inclined to click away from your website and you'll have better conversions.

Wordpress is a cup full of holes, your PR is going to leak everywhere unless you harden it, you'll get a ton of duplicate content via tags and categories having same content as your content pages, your pages are going to cannibalize themselves, and off-the-shelf (even with plugins for SEO) it all sucks. Why in the world does Google, or anyone else for that matter, need to see a hyperlink to an author page on a website that only has one author + a whole bucketload full of other SEO stupidness. And no ... Google doesn't know how to sort it out without diminishing your site's on-site SEO.

But then again, if you have a SEO blog and your market is other SEOs, by all means put it on Genesis and tell everyone how great it is and the learning curve isn't so bad so you can make some money as an affiliate. :D

phpbuilt - So I guess that means you're not a fan of wordpress period. Which CMS do you prefer?
nightbat - I've built many Thesis sites. I was just curious if a niche site was worthy of Thesis or Genesis or if that is sort of overkill for such a small, non-expansive endeavor.

He says wordpress is waste (kinda of thing)

I think he prefers joomla or drupal (may be) which I support too...
