I used to rank websites really well with profile links alone, I would create little and often. It worked really well for some time, but now they seem to be not as powerful.

I'm currently scraping lists of forum profile URLs and wondering about the effectiveness?

I like to get as many referring domains in my link profile as possible, I may just drip feed them direct to site.

Alone profile links are not good anymore. You need to diversify your links in order to get stable rankings.

    Thanks

Well, the thing is, people say and believe things like this without testing them.

For example, I had a free blast of 700+ directories recently to an unimportant test domain and my rankings increased very nicely a couple of days later. Directories are supposed to be useless these days, but the fact that they increased rankings in one of my sites proves otherwise.

I think i'll drip feed the profiles into a couple of my sites. Ultimate Demon is good for this since it runs 24/7.

There are still sites ranking #1 right now with only profile links : Fact. I just analyzed one today.

I usually just pick a batch of web 2.0 profiles and drip them

I wonder if this is because of link velocity. Manually building profile links makes the link profile very natural

I reall think the point of time where the links have been placed and spidered are decisive. I ranked some heavyweight KWs in the past with a few niche targeted profiles alone. Most of them are deleted nowadays, but the rankings stick.
I also noted that other rankings don't move down if I delete links. I hade some important rankings, got a penalty (which I lifted meanwhile) and removed panically quality links also. Those have been links from blogs in editorial niveau, which have cost me much effort and skyrocketed me to #1. After I recovered, I assumed to get down with this keywords because I removed this precious links, but for now about 2 month they remain at the same position.

High PR profiles are gold. Make only 100 and blast the hell out of them.

It doesn't work hereafter. You need to find new backlink methods :)

No, this is pre panda and penguin.
Quality content it's what it's all about now, do this and your sites will do nothing but go upupupupup.

But the question is... How can you be sure?

You read it on a forum?

I'll give it a go and see what happens. Drip feed about 2k sites over a month on a test domain.

No I didn't read it in a forum, speaking from personal experience.
But I was just throwing my two cents, I mean you can try if you want, one doesn't learn in someone else's head they say.
