Or are most sites on Flippa nothing more than a scam? I've bought some domains there in the past and I have purchased one website which does make me some money (I've made back my investment in one month). I'm just interested in hearing if anyone else has had success before I venture further into buying sites at auction.

How much did you buy your site for op? I've heard 80% are scams. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It's not a scam per se, flippa is legit, scummy sellers.

a little over 400 dollars, and I've made about 450 with it. However, it takes about an hour a day to run it and process orders. I bring in a 12-15k monthly income with other methods that take even less of my time, so an hour a day to make 450 in a month is an annoyance for me. I'll probably end up dumping the site.

So what do they do just pretty much lie about what the site earns or what? How do they get away with it ? I mean some of the sites are very pricy you would think they would do a better job of controlling scams .

If the site has as many advantages as they say, they wouldn't sell it. They always say "I'm selling this site because I don't have time for it" but that's generally false.

bought one for $60 seller was claiming $5/day, all organic traffic (didn't have any stats) - truth was $0 per day and all bad referers, took me 6 months to fix all shits and get site up on #3 position in google.com.

    My eperience with flippa:
    a) never buy site from seller that has bad reputation
    b) never buy site without stats (for me this means without analytics)
    c) always check is site banned, or are G ads banned on that site
    d) do backlink portfolio research before making an offer

    Cheers!

That's not necessarily so. Since I make 5 figures a month, why would I waste my time with a site that only makes a few hundred a month? So what would the best option for me be? Sell it of course.

I would be happy to make your life better and buy your annoyance if it makes $450 a month :p

Haha, thanks for your offer, but I'm not selling it yet. I rather put some work into it for a month or so and see if I can raise it to earning 1,000 a month. If I can't, then I'll probably end up selling it.

I apologize, but I won't be revealing that! And although I put in very little work to make that money, it took me a very long long time to master the method.

Please refrain from PMing me about buying the site, as it is not currently for sale.

I have purchased 3 sites from flippa, 2 were a downright scam. That was my own stupid fault for not researching them properly. They looked too good to be true and it turns out they were.

The third one though, I got from a respected seller and did a lot of research on before I got it. It is doing almost as well as the seller claimed it would. The lessons I took out of it are that there is money to be made, you just have to be very very careful.

Why bother with $400 sites from Flippa when you are earning $10k to $15k a month. Those sites won't be making money whatever they claim. If they were they'd be far more expensive. If you are really earning the money you claim you should be buying established websites with proven traffic and turnover in the $25k + bracket. Meathead the mod on here is a broker and would find sites for you that are earners with your budget.

BTW I'd have posted this in the Flippa section too...

I didn't know there was a Flippa section, thanks for informing me! The reason I bought the site was more out of curiosity than anything. I will look into purchasing a more established website in the future. At the moment I'm saving up for a home and do not have the extra cash to spend that much on a site, but towards the end of the year I will look more seriously at established sites. I'd much rather buy a site so I can that I can write off so I won't have to pay the IRS 25K+ again next year.

I asked some tough questions (how satisfied were the previous buyers) at an auction where I did not have the intention to bid and I got accused of trolling and I had my account temporarily suspended. In fact, I contacted just one of the previous buyers (which any prospective buyer could and should do) and he confirmed that the website he paid $5000 for, hardly earns any money. I was naive enough to start a war against a top seller there. However, I was surprised they restored by account after I asked them politely to do so.
While flippa is legitimate, their profit thrives on the sales made through the website and they have little incentive to filter out the bad offers (what business would enjoy losing a lot of profit :) ). It is quite amazing that sellers who clearly sold plenty of bad websites still have a 100% positive feedback and I am trying to figure out how that works.
