So i've spent some time trying to figure this out but I'm trying to figure out a free way to connect my ipod touch (would be the same with an iphone) to my computer (Vista 32bit) to serve as a remote desktop.

The first promising article I tried doesn't run properly anymore, another stopped working in January due to a software update on the iphone/ipod touch, and others don't work for Vista.

I may just end up buying one of the apps from the appstore for $25 since it's not much, but I was just wondering if anyone else had success doing it for free.

Isn't there a VNC app for the iphone? I had one for my jailbroken iPod touch, I'm pretty sure it woulda hit the App store by now.

Also, why exactly do you wanna do this? Controlly your PC from your iPod is VERY, VERY annoying...

    You can also try RDMplus

You get a weeks trial for free.

These applications do work. Just keep in mind it takes ages to do remote work on an iphone if you dont have 3G

EDGE and GPRS are so slow u be waiting several minutes just for the screen to refresh.

Get the free week trial from RDM first before deciding to buy it.

Personally the Windows Mobile is better.

eh I'll just go with jaadu. It's $25 I think so not exactly big bucks.

I'd already decided to just buy one when I posted this, I was just wondering if anyone had figured out a free way since I ran across maybe a dozen different methods to do exactly what I was looking for.

Then it turns out that they don't work for one reason or another (firmware update or something similar) or are really limited. I really just wanted it so I could have manage programs running on my comp from anywhere. I mean I run some twitter accounts on the side and if there was a way to run hummingbird remotely it would save some time. Stuff like that.

Yeah I would use VNC. That is what I use to manage some of my servers from my Ipod Touch. And I believe that is works with the iPhone. It's not the best way to control a computer though from such a small screen with really touchy controls.

VNC won't work with a vanilla Vista OS. You need to install a VNC client on your pc in order to access the PC via VNC. TightVNC is good app to use, and it's free :)
