Just curious, has anyone improved their ranking after removing back links? I mean no new back links, no page changes, just removing low quality back links.

Removing large some of backlinks will give some google dance, But it is hard to say, if the site is affected by updates.

Seen the numbers go up, yes. I'm contemplating on totally removing all the bad back links and see what it does to my site.

btw guys i'm not talking about the disavow tool, i'm talking about straight up deleting links from other sites.

Yep i have great success removing backlinks and seeing my rankings increase. I know it sounds counterinuitive but I've seen first hand the results and have recovered several sites from penalties.

Most of my pain started when I received an unnatural link warning in Google back when they deindexed many of the linkbuilding services out there back in February/March/April. You know the services I'm talking about as many of us saw a huge drop in rankings and received an unnatural link warning. Like most people i thought i'd wait it out, well that didn't work. Then I started looking at ways that I could recover some of my own personal sites and work with clients websites that also so a plummet in rankings.

That is when I found out about link removal services such as linkdelete.com. After a bunch of research and asking around the community I decided to go with linkdelete on a little project that I had as a test.

Long story short that within a few months they removed over 60% of the links that I needed to have removed, which was about 2,000 links total. At first nothing really happened with my rankings, but by the second month i started to see volatility in rankings again. That is usually a good sign, especially after getting slapped into oblivion. After three months my website really started to recover. Now here I am sitting comfortably at my old rankings and I'm working on other client sites and other project websites with linkdelete.

Removing backlinks does work, but it requires patience and strategy. The key is to remove anchor text links and spammy links that used to work. Also you want to remove blog network links that were deindexed as well. Google's penguin and other algorithm updates were created to target artificial backlink profiles. Reducing and diversifying preexisting profiles seems to work well.

I saw the linkdelete service and thought it was a bit pricey.
With the given results, do you feel it was worth the cost?
