I just had Fios installed a few days ago and want to know if anyone else has it. I like the service and fast internet access.

Question: do you know how to change the IP address on the Actiontec modem? When the tech was here installing it, he said that my IP is dynamic but didn't know how to change IP. Anyone know how to do this and if it can be done with this modem?

Oh, I can log into the admin area for the modem but don't want to screw any of the setting up.

hi popcrdom,

I was able to change my ip daily, just by turning off my modem overnight each day. hope that helps

Thanks unknown101. I read that somewhere else too but I need to change my IP more often than that. Thanks for responding though.

Man I've searched hi and low on how to change my IP address. This really sucks.

So lets make it a little more interesting: I will give $30 (via paypal) to the first person who can find the solution to how I can change my IP address.

The make and model of modem is: Actiontec M424-WR and the service is Verison Fios Internet. I have a dynamic connection and I'm on Windows XP.

Turning the modem off overnight or for 24 hours is not an option because I need to change it more often than that.

I called tech support and they were of no help. They just told me to try the system command of ipconfig /release then renew but that didn't work either.

You can either post your findings here or PM it to me. I'll try it and let you know if it works or not. If it does then I'll paypal you $30.

you can try to reset your ip manually if you're on a windows machine type this in the comand prompt

ipconfig /release *
ipconfig /renew

I used to use the service on my laptop before i had a steady place of residence...pretty good stuff so long as you're in a populated area with a good network.

edit: i just read your post and saw you tried this.

try ipconfig /flushdns

also clear out your hosts file and make sure you don't have any leases that stay with you
