I'm thinking about creating a local directory listing website of businesses within my town. I found a clone script much like Yelp but more simplified, it allows users to create accounts and leave reviews. My idea is to pretty much be the "yelp" of my town, and almost an online "authority" yellow page type site, as I don't see anyone dominating the market yet. I would target categories like Mexican restaurants, plumbers, dentists, Sushi, Vapor Stores, etc.. all attached with my home city with the keyword. I plan on having pages of "top 10 in X" type articles, like top 10 seafood restraunts in San Francisco etc.. for instance (not my target city, just an example). The monitization plan would be to approach businesses for slots of "featured listings", these would appear at the top and the first thing people see.. I'm thinking $60/month for a feature listing.

Has anyone else done this, and did it work for you?
