I have a blog about a popular video game that gets around 800 unique visitors per day and members/subscribers. I'm thinking of setting up a store on the website and designing some shirts, hats, sweatshirts, etc. If I do this I would make an announcement in the forums, put an ad on the sidebar of the website for some items on sale, and make it clear that I am selling merchandise in other ways to my site visitors - maybe even a popup when people enter the site.

Is this a good way to add some additional income to a website that gets a decent amount of traffic? I feel like it can't hurt and there's only money to gain from doing this. Thoughts?

Cheap, free or viral. SpreadShirt shops leave little room for profit unless it/one goes viral. Friends wont pay for squat so I skip them and give the "most likely to wear" the free $6 bulk shirt. So sad I'm profiling people over $6 shirts...

I would not go with a pop up since that would cause a high bounce rate and frustration. Go with a small media space
beside the forum layout. Make it attractive and simple.
