My parents asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I really can't think of anything that I want. I searched for what the best sellers were on Amazon and the Flip MinoHD (8GB) came up.

It looks like another over-hyped and over-priced electronic (like the iPod was), but I guess it could come in handy when I don't want to carry my bulky SLR or video camera around.

Anyone have any first hand experience and opinions with the Flip?

The flip is great I have 2. But I have now set my sights on the new Kodak Zi8. It is way better than the flip. Research it and see. It's only $150 too.

Just did some quick research on the two. While the Kodak has some features that I would love to have, I just saw a low light video of it and it looks absolutely horrible. I know it's not going to be great for a pocket cam, but the Mino looked way better in the same video.

Maybe the guy just didn't have the settings right, so I'll look around and try to find some more side by side videos.

I love my flip but I don't like the fact there in no mic input.

You have no idea what you are talking about. There is a HUGE difference when it comes to HD and Standard Definition video.

If you are watching both videos on a NON HDTV you might only see a slight difference(even then probably it will be noticeable) but compare them on a HDTV and it will blow you away.

The Flip is a CHEAP video quality camera. It is ok but expect videos to be really shaky as it has no image stabilization. The resolution is ok and you can check out video clips on youtube.

I would opt for a Canon flash based full 1080P camcorder instead if you wanted good video quality. The flash based ones are quite small too!
