My gf works as a self-employed domestic cleaner and i want to promote her in some way to get her more work.Does any of you fellows know any good methods to do this without spamming the forums?

At the moment i'm running half a dozen FB ads.I don't have enough funds for adwords.

Has anyone been here before?Any ideas would be greatly appreciated !

make a site and target zip codes keywords, they are easier to rank

Gumtree probably best bet. Not hard for a domestic cleaner to be very busy in London, assuming you have decent transport links/in a good location. Or put flyers up in local shops. Competing with the big boys on PPC isn't going to be economical for you.

Essentially, this type of small scale business will do best by being spread offline, especially word of mouth. Flyers and putting ads up in good areas of town is a great idea.

Put posters up in your local hospitals. The doctors often employ domestic cleaners and if they are happy with them they will quickly tell their friends and she will never be out of work.

I used to find cleaners on Gumtree when I was living in Australia, however, I quickly stopped using Gumtree cleaners because it became apparent that those advertising on there didn't have the funds to pay for ads elsewhere for a reason (ie, the were unreliable, and there was always some issue). I switched to an agency - my problems didn't go away, but when I had an issue, I at least had a replacement on my doorstep the next day.

I'm not at all suggesting your GF is like the description above, I just suggest that as soon as she's worked a little and has earned some dough, put a website online and do something to get away from the GT crowd :)

One of my clients is a local janitorial service. There isn't any sophisticated competition in any place for it.

Just search for her competitor's citations (don't know what citations are? google it.) and get the same ones. After that get a good review once per week on Goog, Yelp, Yellowpages, etc. from different aged accounts (friends + clients). After a few months she'll at least be on the first page. Doesn't change the fact that not too many people search for it. But then again, it's all one can do.

Also, make an appealing website. I hate butt ugly local businesses with sites straight outta 1999, which is 99.9% of em. It'll help her stand out.

Hey, I was just browsing the forum and saw this. I actually run a house cleaning business in the states and what worked well for me was those social coupon sites (groupon, living social). Consider it advertising because she won't make much off it, but she will start a database that she can attack and also after she cleans a person's place she should leave a magnet and an offer for 20% off next cleaning if they refer someone else. I hope this helps.
