I've just been reading up in my local newspapers and looking around at some offline stuff and it's angering me how dumb some people are that I want a piece of the pie.

For example I came across an online directory for my local town's businesses. These idiots pay like 2 grand to be listed on a PR2 site. But what angers me is do they not realize that nobody is actually visiting the directory???! What is the purpose of being listed. It's quite clear they don't understand the internet.

Are people having any success doing things like this in their local communities?

I have a plan to advertise in my local paper offering a web design / SEO package, where I'd make businesses sites using wordpress as a CMS, and perhaps give them a basic guide via auto-responder.

Can I charge like 2 grand for that? It just seems so arrogant lol.

Well why would you expect the average business owner to know anything about this world? Of course you can do it, you can charge whatever you want.

You show these guys 30,000 hits a day of junk traffic in your web logs and they think the whole state is coming to you to find local businesses.

That is a good point Nevarc. Also make sure you have your sales pitch down to science though, because you are supposed to be an expert when it comes to this.

Another option would be to offer a monthly service to them and charge a couple of hundred a month but in this scenario you'd actually have to deliver some sales in order for them to keep paying you. If you can do this then you will have a steady income every single month.

I make most of my money offline but am more and more using my online expertise to increase my revenues. It's beautiful since they are completely clueless just like Nevarc already pointed out.

I have made good money in the past targeting local Businesses for employment advertising. All you do is look for small to med size companies and sell them adspace on your site. You follow that up with some craigslist, backpage and other free classified sites and they will love you forever because your getting them more response than they ever got before
