Hi, i have recently changed hosting companies friom hostgator to 1and1. I have had a quick look and the whole cpanel is completely different, and the ftp details all look completely different.

HAs anybody used 1and1 and have any good tips or tutorials?, also how difficult is it to add word press oin to 1and1?, with hostgator it was pretty straight forward, but i beleive it looks moe complicated.

The video tutorials that come with 1and1 are pretty crap i believe anyway, and cant learn or understand them

    Thanks in advance

I've used 1and1 for over a year now and there hosting is excellent for smaller usage. On smaller packages you can't really add wordpress due to it's use of MySQL but it does have a built in blog which is built around it.

I'm sorry, I use 1and1 only for their domain registrations. they are a lttle bit slow with their domain registrations, but overall not too bad.

I have one and one hosting package for 3 years now and no problems. Not sure on the breakdown on packages but mine comes with 2x sql databases that can be set up in the admin panel. Mine is the business package
After install Wordpress to your designated directory and link it to the SQL database.

SQL takes about an hour to complete it's setup routine so don't try and link until you get the setup finished message otherwise it will fail.

Adwords likes one and one as the page loads are well above average for my geographical area.

I'd be quite wary of 1and1, they do have a fairly bad reputation, although "non-existant support" tends to bode well for BH projects - they tend to go unnoticed.

For any serious blackhat affair I'd take it offshore though. I've been using Panama-based hosts for the last couple of years for any "gray" activity and have been very impressed. Consistently good support, and a general indifference towards copyright or other complaints people make about your site. I'm looking to get a colo down there fairly soon.
